Yesterday, Bored Ape Yacht Club revealed a sneak peek into the Ape vinyl toy figurines that have been in the works with Superplastic. The cutting-edge, Superplastic, is the world’s top creator of vinyl toys and rare digital collectibles. On their website, Superplastic stated that the figurines would include multiple colorways and special editions for the community. The brand also stated that the vinyl figurines will, in fact, be IRL “toys.”
“Superplastic is producing the first official Bored Ape Yacht Club vinyl figurines… This will include multiple colorways & special editions for our communities. More details coming soon!”
What is Vinyl?
Vinyl, or polyvinyl chloride (PVC), is a synthetic plastic polymer that is tough and durable. Vinyl is the world’s most versatile plastic and has been used in floorings and art toys.
The vinyl material is strong, durable and resistant to abrasion and moisture. These art vinyl toys can make it through the most challenging shipping and come out unscathed. If the toy happens to fall, chances are it will not break.
Bored Ape Yacht Club tweeted, “Sneak peek at our toy collaboration with @superplastic, dropping later this week” following Superplastic’s comical tweet, “F&CK IT. APE VINYL THIS WEEK.” Back in January, Superplastic revealed the official Ape that would be the muse for Superplastic x Bored Ape Yacht Club vinyl figurine.

In 2002, Budnitz came across images of vinyl toys from China and Japan. The toys included, “vinyl toys based on cereal box characters, and remixed GI-Joes turned into stylized B-boys.” The Yale University alum noticed the toys encompassed all of his interests including fashion, graffiti, comics, music, cartoons, and fine art. In 2002, Budnitz founded Kidrobot in a California garage. In 2019 Budnitz launched Superplastic.
Superplastic has raised $38 million in funding with investors Google Ventures, Index Ventures, Cyan Bannister, Jared Leto, Chamillionaire, Justin Timberlake, Scott Belsky, Scooter Braun, Founders Fund, Craft Ventures, Galaxy Digital, Mantis VC/The Chainsmokers, Kakao Entertainment, LINE Friends, Electric Feel Entertainment, Day One Ventures, Betaworks, Sean Qiao Ventures, and many more.
When asked if the products he is producing are toys or art, the American entrepreneur and artist always replied with, “both.”
“It was impossible to explain to people what I was doing with Kidrobot. People would ask, ‘are they art or are they toys?’, and I’d say, ‘Both.’”

Budnitz’s grandfather spoke of the American entrepreneur’s desire for risk-taking:
“My grandfather was a small-town doctor and he used to say that I was missing a gene that told me that some giant risk I am about to take with my life is both stupid and dangerous.”
The artist, designer, and filmmaker’s risk-taking endeavors have paid off. Previously, Superplastic collaborated with luxury brand, GUCCI to create SUPERGUCCI, a three-part series of rare NFTs. The collection was co-created by Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele and synthetic toys Janky & Guggimon.
Bored Ape Yacht Club announced another major collaboration. Yuga Labs is teaming up with Coinbase to produce a three-part film for BAYC and ApeCoin communities.
This comes after the announcement of a group of 21 Bored Apes who are forming a music band after partnering with Universal Music Group (UMG).
In addition to this, the successful grand opening of the first NFT restaurant, Bored and Hungry made its’ debut in Long Beach, California. Bored And Hungry is a cashless restaurant and only accepts credit/debit cards, ETH and ApeCoins. Los Angeles restaurateur, Andy Nguyen, spent $267,000 USD to purchase Bored Ape #6184 and an additional two Mutant Apes.
Upon purchasing, owners of this NFT have access to IP ownership rights. Nguyen has shown the benefits of owning the IP of a Bored Ape and how NFTs can maneuver into the real world.
