The Bay Area’s Ricky Lake, Releases NFT Music Video, ‘The Answer’

Oakland, California native, Ricky Lake’s launched his NFT music video “The Answer.” The first single from his upcoming album Altered, Ricky gives his audience a slight grunge, pop-punk sound with the beginning of the song giving hints of 90’s grunge band, Sonic Youth.

The music video was shot in 16mm film. Starring in the video as Ricky’s unlikely love interest, AVN Hall of Fame performer and director, Jessica Drake.

“This is my first project since the pandemic began, and I was starving for a role I could really sink my teeth into… Once I heard the concept for the video and had the first meeting, I immediately grasped the creative potential of this project. Working alongside Ricky was amazing. As an artist, he has such talent in expressing himself, and in person he was no different. He was a dream to work with—funny, kind, creative and very willing. I love that in a scene partner. And the steamier scenes—that you’ll only find as an NFT—really showcase our chemistry.”

Directed by Matt Zolly and produced by Patrick Koitzsch, this extended web3 version is not just Ricky Lake’s genesis video for Glass, but also the genesis mint for Jessica and Matt.

At the age of 15, Ricky (Marcus McAlpin) left Los Angeles and moved with his family to Nashville. Lake is the son of two doctors, steeped in the usual high school trappings of weed smoke, weird books and hip hop, Ricky (real name Marcus McAlpin) got a wake up call. The pseudo-progressive Southern Nashville landscape showed him a sobering side of the United States, yet continued to create new music.

Ricky found his tribe in eclectic circles in Oakland, CA where collaborated with various musicians and artists such as Taifa Nia (OCD, Same Girls). Ricky soon found music family at San Francisco’s Text Me Records.

Ricky’s influences include NERD, Blink 182, Crystal Castles and more.
